Lewes Bonfire Night
Lewes, East Sussex
Bonfire societies parade burning crosses, tar barrels and effigies through the county town.
5 November 2026
ROUND-UP GUIDE · 5 EVENTS
Sussex takes bonfire night more seriously than anywhere else in Britain. Bonfire societies march in costume behind banners and burning torches, with marching bands, tar barrels and fireworks, through a season that runs from early autumn into November.
Lewes is the famous one, but it asks outsiders to think twice about travelling. Battle, Rye and Hastings offer the same spirit with a little more breathing room. Brighton and Hastings make good bases with plenty of rooms.
